Better Instagram Insights
Slowly, Instagram Insights are getting better. The latest update gives us more info about our audience.
We’ll be able to see how many people that we reach follow us and how many are non-followers. Plus which part of Instagram is driving that reach to new people.
You will also see the breakdown of followers v non-followers for your engaged audience.
Why is this important?
To grow your audience you need to reach new people. Now you can see if your growth is due to this extra reach, or if you aren’t reaching many new people you’ll understand why you aren’t growing fast.
I’ll be doing a more detailed video on this shortly.
Post to Instagram from the web
A lot of small business owners and marketers work on desktop. If they want to post to Instagram they have to pick up a phone, or use Business Suite from Facebook which can be glitchy and lacking in function.
That’s about to change, this week Instagram is rolling out posting from the web. No need to go to Business Suite, no getting distracted by your phone. You will be able to post images and videos to the feed from your computer.
Yay! Currently, it’s just for feed posts but we’re expecting stories and reels will be rolled out eventually.
Schedule Instagram live
If you want people to tune in to your Instagram live you have to promote it like mad. You can use countdown stickers to remind people and you can pester people in the feed.
This week Instagram introduced scheduling for live broadcasts up to 90 days in advance. When you schedule a live broadcast Instagram lets you share it in the feed, telling people about the broadcast and prompting them to ask for reminders.
This could be a great way to get a captive audience to planned live streams. And it adds a new way to build that audience before the event.
Longer Instagram story videos
It seems a bit mad, doesn’t it? That you can upload a 60-second video to Instagram stories and it will break it down into clips that you have to decorate separately.
Well, it looks like this is about to change. Instagram is working on allowing you to add 60-second video clips in their entirety to Instagram stories. This will match the video length elsewhere on the platform and will also mean you could upload your Reels here in full.
Twitter Account Delegation
Twitter is a pain for social media managers. There are ways to manage other people’s accounts but it’s not as straightforward as adding an admin.
But it looks like it could be about to get easier. Twitter is working on ‘Account Delegation’. This could be similar to Facebook page roles and will allow you to grant account access to your social media manager.
Instagram profile embeds
What are the advantages of embedding your Instagram profile on a website?
It’s a way to connect with people before they leave your website.
It doesn’t drive people away from your site as an Instagram button does.
It could be a nice way to showcase staff members.
But if you want to embed your profile on your site you have to use a third-party tool.
That could be about to change. Instagram is working on an option to embed a profile on your site.
If it’s launched, will you use it?
Facebook is about to change its name. Next week, they will announce what the new name will be.
It’s likely that the parent company name will change. The social network will stay the same. This is similar to when Google’s parent company became Alphabet and Snapchat’s company became Snap.
I imagine they want the new name to distance them from the controversy surrounding the social network, but it will also clear up confusion surrounding the ‘Facebook suite of apps’.
It also makes way for their new big thing… the Metaverse virtual reality world (aka the Matrix).
