YouTube Upgrades Community Posts
Google has often tried and failed to launch a social network, could they actually manage it as part of YouTube?
Community posts are social media-style posts, which according to YouTube “…connect you to your audience outside of video uploads”. YouTube just announced upgrades to community posts, available to a small group of users, including stickers and text for image posts and quizzes.
As yet we can’t see what quizzes look like but they could mimic the Quiz sticker on Instagram.
YouTube community posts have often been the most overlooked part of the network. But could they become a bigger thing as people start looking for Twitter alternatives?
New Twitter Ad Options
Twitter may be changing but it’s not giving up on your ad dollars yet.
This week it announced some changes to ads that could make them more desirable.
Firstly they’re changing the way conversions work. It will now work in a similar way to Meta ads where you can use the conversions goal to target people who are most likely to take a specific action. According to Twitter in tests, this has resulted in a 25% reduction in cost per conversion.
It’s also adding dynamic creative and collection ads, which are both similar to creative options in Meta.

Message yourself on WhatsApp
We have ideas at the weirdest times. When we’re out for a walk, when we’re in the shower, when we’re in bed, when we’ve settled down in front of the fire with a good book and a cup of cocoa.
When the idea hits what do we do? We need to remember it, and we need our future selves to remember it. So we send ourselves a message somewhere.
Now WhatsApp is adding a ‘Message Yourself’ feature that will make this whole thing easier. It’s rolling out right now but not to me yet.
TikTok Updated Partner Programme
If TikTok is on your list of things to get sorted in 2023 the new updated marketing partners platform could be useful.
They call it a platform but essentially it’s a mini website designed to connect you with TikTok partners, these include digital agency, creative tools and even e-commerce management tools like WooCommerce.
It’s a great place to go to find the pieces you need to make your TikTok campaigns work. By offering this TikTok is removing some of the barriers for businesses to advertise with them.
What Life Events Do We Share Most On Social?
If you know what life events people celebrate most on social media, you can tune your marketing to reach those people.
For example, if you offer a wedding service, Instagram may be the place to market it. If you offer a divorce service, it’s TikTok.
That’s according to a study from Confused.com that looked at the most popular life event posts on Instagram and TikTok, based on hashtags.
Marriage and babies feature heavily on Instagram whereas TikTok includes a few more negative life events like ‘breakups’ ‘divorce’ and ‘funerals’.
Polls can be a great way to engage with your audience and find out what their preferences and interests are. We’ve seen them work well on Instagram and LinkedIn, now we’re going to start seeing them on WhatsApp.
Currently being rolled out on WhatsApp desktop apps you will be able to create a poll with up to 12 options and share it in a group chat. It could be a quick way to survey your communities and groups when you are developing new ideas.
Tweets Could Be 1k Characters
Is it relevant for tweets to remain at 280 characters? As much as I enjoy threads, doesn’t the frequency I’m seeing them in my feed suggest that people want to be able to tweet longer?
It seems that Elon Musk is considering expanding the character count. But to how many characters and how much will display?
All we have to go on, for now, are a few random tweets but it wouldn’t surprise me if we did see the rumoured 1k characters in the near future.
