Writing a good blog headline is an art. It’s also a crucial part of getting people to view your blog. A good blog headline should be compelling enough to make someone click and read more and search engine friendly.
Here are three tools that will help you create better blog headlines:
1. Hubspot’s Blog Topic Generator. This is quick and easy to use and you will get five mostly useable headlines in seconds. No sign in is required.
2. Emotional Marketing Value Headline Analyzer. Tapping in to your readers emotions is a good way to get them to click. This tool will give you a score on how emotionally compelling it is and tell you what type of emotions you are evoking. ‘Intellectual’, ‘Empathetic’ or ‘Spiritual’.
3. Content Idea Generator. This takes a little more work. You need to answer a series of questions. You will then be given 360 possible headlines. You will find this very hit and miss but you are likely to find a few titles to help you get the creative juices flowing.
All of these tools can help you create blog titles but they will also help you come up with new ideas for blog posts. They are a great way to start to combat bloggers block.
I’ll be looking at some more tactics for creating good blog headlines later in the week.
Your Turn
Try out one or all of these blog headline tools and let me know the result. Did it help you overcome bloggers block? Did you find a set of new blog topics to play with?
Yes, the tools might not throw up the type of wording that suits your style but they are great for ideas and pointing you in the right direction. I have a blog post title by One Man’s Meat in my presentation for tomorrow to demonstrate emotional appeal / comfort – just put it into the Emotional Marketing tool and it got a score of 71% 🙂
I use these tools from time to time – but then I kinda forget about them, so thanks for the reminder. The EMV tool is one of my favourites when I remember to use it.
Yes I like the EMV tool too. It gives me a chance to work on my headlines. I find all of these great for bloggers block. I tend to drift out of using them too.
Conor is a natural wordsmith and yes the titles may not be an ideal fit for everyone but they can spark ideas. I find I am now automatically thinking this way when writing a headline.
Ooh I didn’t know about the emv one, just tried it out, very nice!
Yes I think it’s my fave as it helps me work on my existing headlines.
I’ve been using all of these on and off for a while thanks to your recommendations and can definitely see a difference in clicks when I do. I also find like you, when I have bloggers blog I play with them and the titles they suggest will often give me a post.
Thanks Dee, yes it really does make a difference when you work on a headline. I know I’m guilty of not spending as much time as I should but I like to think I’m in the right mindset for it now too.
