It seems that last weeks announcement, relaxing the rules on Facebook competitions has made a lot of people happy. Picking a winner of these new competitions could be hard work, particularly if you just ask for likes on a pot. Luckily Fanpage Karma were quick off the mark with a tool that can help you do just that.
Here’s how it works:
1. Find the link to your Facebook competition post
Scroll through your timeline until you find your Facebook competition post.
Click on the timestamp at the top of the post.
This brings you to the unique link for your post
Copy the entire link from your address bar
2. Visit the Fanpage Karma website
Click here to visit the ‘Goodluck Fairy’ app on Facebook Karma
Paste your link into the box
Click ‘Identify Winners’
It takes a minute or two, depending on the number of likes you are choosing from but it will show you a winner and provide you with a link directly to the winners profile so you can notify them.
If you require more than one winner you can hit ‘New round with the good luck fairy’ and it will repeat the process.
While this is a handy app for choosing random winners I think you should be looking for more from your contestants than simply liking a post, making your contest more challenging and creative; for example ‘guess how heavy this is’ or ‘tell us a story in 5 words’ will encourage far more buzz and engagement.
This isn’t the only tool offering a way to choose winners. ShortStack have released a tool for it’s subscribers and I am on a waiting list to try the Heyo app.
