Behind the Threads API
Everything on threads will change in June.
Because in June it’s officially launching its API. That’s the bit that will allow third-party tools to connect to the platform.
Access to the API will allow, post analytics, real-time notifications, posting, and scheduling.
It’s been testing this with some select partners already.
This is great news for social media managers but a part of me is cringing at the thought of losing the in-the-momentness of Threads.
New Instagram Notify sticker
Do you worry that the people who choose to follow you on Instagram don’t see your content?
A new ‘Notify’ sticker for stories could help. When you add it people can choose to get notifications when you post.
They can choose from ‘Posts’ ‘Stories’ ‘Reels’ ‘Live Videos’ or any combination of these.
It’s great if you’re launching something, it will ensure you reach as many people as possible, but how long until people get annoyed at all the notifications?

New Facebook video player
Have you ever gone back to a marketing tactic that didn’t work out the last time you tried it?
Facebook seems to be doing that with its new video player.
Optimised for mobile it will default to vertical but allow you to go full screen on horizontal videos too.
The biggest change is that Facebook will recommend the most relevant video for you to watch next no matter if it’s long, short, or live. This could keep people on site longer leaving more space for ads and more optimisation opportunities.

TikTok photo app
TikTok made vertical video popular. And now it’s launching a photo app. Will that be as popular?
It’s been rumoured that TikTok is working on an app similar to the old Instagram. Now it seems to be happening.
Users are seeing a notification when they post an image which tells them that TikTok ‘Notes’ will also display their photo on Notes.
Is the world ready for this? Remember when Instagram launched the IGTV app and then sunsetted it? Maybe we don’t need another app just for photos?
But I’m ready to be proved wrong.

Short video search on Google
Google has been seeing some unlikely competition over the last few years. People are using social sites like TikTok and Instagram for search instead of traditional search engines.
Could that be what is behind a possible new update from Google, that could add a ‘Short video’ tab to Google search results?
We already have a video tab and we see videos in standard search results but this is just for short videos. It will display content from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
This could mean extra exposure is you create short-form video on those platforms.

LInkedIn push collaborative articles
LinkedIn really wants you to contribute to collaborative articles.
They’ve seen a huge increase in contributions quarter over quarter. It can give you more visibility, plus the prompts could help banish creator’s block.
Now LinkedIn is pushing even harder to get contributions.
Some users have seen a CTA ‘contribute expertise’ when they start a post.
When clicked it recommends a list of posts to contribute to.

Most effective social media content?
43% of marketers use social media, it’s the most popular marketing channel for us.
But what delivers the best ROI on social? A new report from Hubspot shows that short-form video and live streaming perform the best.
Other top content includes content about brand values and UGC.
It could be worth reviewing your strategy if this type of content isn’t part of it already.
