**UPDATE April 2016 – Recent Facebook page changes have changed the way this works. Find out more here**
When you set up a pure business account via Facebook, or when you migrate a profile page to a Facebook business page you will notice that there is no search bar at the top of the page, you will also notice that you are unable to Like other business pages or comment on their posts. This can be frustrating but it’s easy to fix.
By adding an admin and accessing the page via the admin you will be able to get full functionality, the search bar will re-appear and you can Like and comment on pages. Watch the video to see how to add an admin.
If you enjoy reading my blog please nominate it for the Social Media Examiner Top 10 Social Media Blogs. Last year I reached the finals but I’ve been working hard all year long to make it better. I would be over the moon to make it in to the top 1o this year. To reach the judging stage I need to get a lot of nominations so please nominate www.spiderworking.com by visiting this post and leaving a comment including the link and why you think I should win.
Excellent article on Facebook for Business and search functionality. I will re-tweet this posting on your behalf.
But then the problem with this is when you add the admin, it reverts back to your personal page. Then when you are uploading pictures to the business page, they get reverted to the personal page. That is the problem I am having.
Click on the settings icon at the top right corner of the page (looks like a wheel) and change user from your personal page to your business page. Then you can perform functions as your business.
I have made my wife(personal FB) a Admin manager but still are unable to leave comments or see the search bar.
When I look at my Admin roles page my profile photo isn’t in the box, just a outline of a head in a grey box.
On my page I can answer comments but when I leave a comment on another business page the person doesn’t see it.
It is driving me bonkers…If you can help,it will be brilliant.
I have emailed FB and they just sent a generic email stating they can’t help every bug enquiry.
Regards,
Andy
Hey, I just rolled out a Facebook Application for Searching Facebook Newsfeed of Yourself, your Friends or Facebook Pages.. It also allows sorting the Search Results by Likes, Comments, Shares or Creation Time.

Facebook Canvas Application URL: http://apps.facebook.com/search-newsfeed
Thank you – worked a treat!
I have tried this but there is still no search bar and the admin person’s picture does not appear????
I have been searching for an answer to this for a while and your post was by far the easiest to follow and worked amazingly. Thank you.
I guess facebook is updating that is why there is no search box on your business page.. but honestly i have never seen it on my facebook page. reverse mortgage
I log in as admin, use FB as my business page but still have no search bar….see my page https://www.facebook.com/vitaeasyhealth any suggestions?
You need to log in via a personal profile page that is an admin on your biz account for this to work.
I have tried to add myself as admin after liking my business page but it won’t allow me saying …
We weren’t able to add all your new admins. You can only add your friends or people who already like this Page.
And have you liked the page? I know it sounds silly to ask! I did have someone else with a similar problem recently and I can only think it’s a Facebook glitch. You could try contacting them via this form: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/164405897002583
Yes I did. I also tried adding myself from my icon where I had liked it. Very frustrating. Thanks for the form, I’ll try that!
I don’t have a personal profile/account, should this affect whether I’m entitled to a search bar or not? I have added an admin (as you said) but it still won’t appear.

It’s still an almighty mess 🙂 Both Facebook and Google Plus don’t seem to have much idea about how to include businesses on their sites. I stopped using both of them. Just too much hassle.

Oh and btw, this then links people with businesses they may not want to be known as being affiliated with as in my case. I live in a country that has huge censorship laws and where you can be thrown in jail for saying the wrong thing so, no, I don’t want my name associated with most of my sites 🙂 Stupid Facebook. They seem to think the rest of the world runs like America 🙂

You have to access the page via the personal profile page that admins the page for the search bar to appear.
I have followed your directions and still, no luck here is my situation.
I have a business FB page with no search bar.
I have liked the business FB page from my personal account.
I tried to add myself as a second admin via the business FB page, each time I enter either my name or my email, it asks for the password to confirm and each time says I have used the wrong password even though it is the right one…
Help!
Are you using the right password? It should be the one you use to log into your existing page not the one for the account you want to add as admin.
Hi I have the search bar on my page but when I do a search it reverts back to my personal page. Can you help?
Thanks
Peter
Hi Peter,
When you log in to Facebook click on the cog on the top right hand side of the blue stripe at the top.
From the drop down menu choose the name of your business page. Now you are in business mode so no matter where you go on Facebook you will be acting as your business.
Hope this helps.
I created a business page but the search bar is nowhere to be found. I tried to add an additional admin but I was told to add that person as a friend first. However, I don’t have the “add friend” option. The only option I have is to invite friend via email. I prefer not to do that. I also cannot locate my page via the search option when i’m logged on my personal page. Did I do something wrong when I created the page?
The person who you want to add as admin will need to like the page and you will need the email address that they associate with their Facebook account.
I have a business page but I can’t add an admin. It has been panding for a few days now. But how I can add a new admin if facebook says that managing multiple accounts is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use.
I didn’t see the change user option! How do i go about it now ?
I cannot add an admin for my page either and cannot figure it out. Any luck yet?
Kelsie…you have to go to your personal account, under MORE press LIKES… find the group where is your page and that group have to be public….my page was under OTHER…when I put other under public everything was ok, I became un admin
I can not get it to add an admin when I put in the address associated to the facebook page it just says pending waiting for person to accept but they never receive anything in their email or facbook page for a request
Thank you, thank you, thank you – this was driving me crazy!
Glad you got it sorted 🙂
theres no function for a search box
After trying your work around everything worked great, but 6 months later it has reverted back to having no search bar etc. I have still got my wife as another admin manager but I still can’t like or leave comments.
Any idea what has happened?
You have to log in via a personal profile
I’m closing comments on this post. Please note that once you have added an admin you have to log in via that admin, click the cog on the top right hand side of the Facebook page (in the blue bar at the top) and choose your business page from the drop down menu.
