I’m sure you’ve come across this problem.
You’ve created all your custom events and marked the important ones as Key Events (previously conversions). These events are the heart of your measurement strategy. They will tell you if your website is delivering on your business objectives.
But sometimes you mess up when you create them.
Maybe you accidentally created one you didn’t want
Maybe you created the same one twice
Maybe you moved over to using tag manager and want to manage all your customisation from there.
It’s easy to mess up…
But it doesn’t seem as easy to rectify.
You look everywhere for an option to delete your key event but you just can’t find it.
I get it, I had the same problem, and no matter how much I searched online I couldn’t find the answer.
Then one day I stumbled on it by accident.
Here’s how you can delete that custom Key Event in GA4
Step 1: Log into GA4, from your GA4 home page click the wheel at the bottom left of your screen
Step 2: On the next page, scroll down until you see ‘Events’ click on it. Remember a Key Event is a custom event you have marked as important.
Step 3: Click on ‘Create event’. I know this seems like an odd choice but when you do this you will see all the events you have created within GA4 itself (events you create somewhere else, like tag manager won’t appear here).
Step 4: Click on the event you want to delete
Step 5: Click the three dots at the top right-hand side of the page and click ‘delete’.
