A Facebook username or url makes it easier for you to direct people to your Facebook page. Once you have 25 Likes on your page you are able to create a unique url that works like a web address. All usernames start with www.facebook.com/ you can then choose what you want to appear after this. Ours for example is www.facebook.com/spiderworking.
I’ve encountered a few people recently who have had problems setting their Facebook username. The interface is a little confusing and It’s easy to end up setting your business username for your profile page and visa versa. Follow the steps below to set your business page username and remember that once it’s set you can’t change it.
– Make sure you are logged into Facebook
– Click this link www.facebook.com/username
– The next page gives you the option to change the username for your personal profile and for your ‘Page’
– Underneath ‘Each Page can have a username’ Click on the drop down menu next to ‘Page Name’
– Choose the page that you want to set the username for (you must have 25 Likes on a page before you can set username)
– Depending on your browser a box will open up next to or underneath your page choice.
– Type in your desired username – like a web address this should contain no gaps and be easy for others to spell and remember
– Click ‘Check availability’
– If the username is available double check the spelling and click ‘Confirm’. Once you have completed this step you can’t change or edit your username, you are stuck with it so be very sure you have it right.
If you have accidentally set your username for your profile
Facebook allows you to change the username for your personal profile once, so if you have accidentally set your Facebook page url for your profile you have one chance to change it.
– From your home page click on ‘Account’ on the top right hand side.
– Click ‘Account Settings’ from the drop down menu
– On the next page click ‘change’ next to ‘Username’
– Type in your new personal username into the box underneath ‘Username’
– Click ‘Check availability’
– If it is available and you are happy with it click ‘Confirm’
This will free up the original username for you to use for your business page. It can take a while for Facebook to release the username but you will soon be able to reclaim it for your business page.
Have you had problems setting your username? What else has you stuck on Facebook? Let me know by leaving a comment below.
Very useful info Amanda. I love how you make it so simple to follow.
Thanks Marie 🙂
Thanks for that I just used it successfully!
I cannont get my Music page to accept my URLs the name is PARADOXXX, is it because of the X’s? Can find any info on that on FB.
It could be the XXX or it could be the fact you have it all in caps. Sorry I can’t be more specific but this is the sort of stuff Facebook doesn’t tell us!
Hi. I have been unable to set a url for my business page. It gives me the option to do so but then neither accepts or rejects the url I choose. My personal profile already has a url set to it but its not the one I want for mybusiness page. Do I need to change the personal url in any way? Its currently one automatically set by FB. Thanks in advance!
Hi Miranda,
Are you logged in as yourself when you are trying to set your url? As in does it say your name at the top right hand side of the screen or the name of your business?
If it’s not your name you will need to switch to using Facebook as yourself before you can set your url.
Hope this helps
Hi Amanda, Thanks so much for your reply. I was logged in but acting as ‘business’ not personal and trying to do the url update from the edit settings on the business page. It just wouldn’t except the update from here. Yesterday I mananaged to ge the url updated via the edit page option on my personal profile! Thanks!
So many helpful tips on this site. I had swapped my business page from a place/local business to an organisation as it was not showing up in a search. Since making this change, it shows up in a search but does not show our business premises address under the business name. How do I amend this? Thanks once again!
When completing a search, the facebook page business address does not show under the business name. I would like this to be visible so people know where we are based. Isthis because I changed the business type category from local business/place to organisation? I had made this amendment as the page wasnt showing at all on a search – but it now is, but without the address. Thanks again for your advice. Much appreciated.
Hi Miranda, yes depending on your business type Facebook will show different information in the About box. Sorry I can’t help more.
