TikTok in Landscape
TikTok has its eyes set on YouTube viewers, those people who like to watch longer videos, in the traditional landscape format.
The platform that made vertical video the norm is now flipping for landscape.
Landscape videos will have to be over a minute long but in return, TikTok is offering ‘boosted views’. Creators will need to be on the platform for at least 3 months and only original content is allowed. It also suggests the use of the tag #longervideos
This has to be a swipe at YouTube but it’s also good news for those of us who have a library of landscape videos. Now is the time to get them seen on TikTok
Engaged view in Facebook ads
When you create ads on Meta you can choose an attribution window. That’s the period of time it takes someone to trigger a conversion after clicking or viewing your ad. Unti now you had two options:
7-day click or 1-day view
28-day click or 1-day view.
But there’s a new window in town. When running a website conversion ad you will be able to select the “engaged view attribution”. This will assign conversions to your ad when someone has watched 10 seconds of your video and converted within one day of the video view. It’s going to be interesting to monitor results from this.

X video spaces are coming
There’s no doubt that Twitter/X spaces have been a success story. Chatting with people in real time has made connections with followers stronger with the bonus that you don’t need to do your hair before you join in.
But now you may need to get that comb out.
The long-rumoured X video spaces are about to become a reality. When you set up a space you’ll now be able to select the ‘enable video’ option.
It reminds me of early video livestreaming tool Blab and could be a good way to raise your profile and make stronger connections.

LinkTree updates
When Instagram started letting you add up to 5 links in your profile, link-in bio tools like LinkTree must have taken a hit. But LinkTree is adapting.
Users of the service that creates mini mobile websites for your social bios have just added a bunch of new features that make it more useful than a simple link.
You will now be able to:
- Schedule links to appear
- Add expiring links that will archive on a set date and time.
- Expire the link across timezones.
- Manually archive links which will retain your analytics even when the link isn’t displayed.

Flipside for Instagram
Apparently, most younger people have 2 Instagram accounts. One where they post the ‘sanitised’ version of themselves, one where they can be themselves.
It looks like Instagram may be embracing this trend. It’s testing a new feature called ‘Flipside’ which will allow users to have one account with a secret space only visible to a select subset of friends. You’ll be able to have a different profile photo and name for the flipside.
It could also be useful for business users who want to separate their more personal content from the shiny feed.
Apple Podcasts and transcriptions
Good news for podcasters. Your podcasts are now more accessible on Apple Podcasts.
Podcasters will have gotten a notification from Apple this week asking you to allow transcriptions. Now all podcasts on Apple will have an automatic transcription. I’m yet to see how accurate these transcriptions are but it’s great that our audiences will be broader. I’m guessing it will be particularly good for video podcasts.

Jobs on X
Would you advertise a job on Twitter?
Traditionally LinkedIn has been the place where you do that. But now Twitter/X is keen to get in on the action.
If you are a premium subscriber, you can now list open jobs on your profile. I do wonder if the likes of hotels and coffee shops will use this option or if it will only attract large organisations.
This is yet another move towards X becoming the new WeChat, an app that can do everything.
