The end of Google Optimise
Want to get the best possible results from your web marketing? Savvy marketers rely on split testing to optimise results.
To help, Google gave you a tool called Google Optimise. You can use it to test different variations of web pages and see which version performs best.
But now Google is killing it. From 30th September 2023 it will no longer be available.
That sounds like bad news but there is hope. Google is planning on incorporating A/B testing into Google Analytics 4. Which could be great. Let’s wait and see.

Will photos make an Insta comeback?
Instagram feeds are full of videos. If you want to get seen you need to make videos and Reels. Which is a pain as it takes way more time to create a video than an image.
And people miss images on Instagram.
Now Instagram boss Adam Mosseri is admitting that maybe they have been pushing video way too much.
According to Social Media Today, Mosseri shared in an Instagram story that they have ‘re-balanced the feed’ to feature more images.
I haven’t noticed the change in my feed yet but this could be positive news for marketers and social media managers.
Meta values our privacy…
It’s Data Privacy Day on the 28th of January and Meta wants you to know it cares.
Yeah, I almost spat out my tea when I wrote that…
They certainly have some work to do. According to a 2022 Insider Intelligence report, only 18% of US social media users were confident that Facebook protects their data and privacy.
However, Meta has published an article to encourage users to review their privacy settings, it also outlines how Meta protects our online data.
Is this designed to get ahead of the inevitable criticism Meta will face on the day? It may not convince many people but it’s clearly aiming to become part of a positive conversation.

Youtube shorts location tagging
When you offer a personalised experience, you make people feel like they belong.
TikTok has nailed this, when I opened it for the first time in months it was full of Irish videos, even though I only followed people in the US that I met at an event. I was pleasantly surprised.
YouTube wants to give Shorts viewers the same experience so it’s making it easier for creators to tag locations in their videos.
This means you will soon see way more localised content in the Shorts feed. As a business, you’ll be able to reach more of your localised target market. It definitely makes Shorts more attractive for marketers.
Twitter bookmark gets some love
Sometimes you’ll see a post in your social feed that looks super useful but oh no, you don’t have time to read it now. So you bookmark it, and if you remember you go back to it later.
It’s simple on Facebook and Instagram but on Twitter, it’s a pain. Or it was a pain. A new update makes the bookmark button prominent underneath expanded tweets. There’s just one catch, it’s only available for iPhone users now, but it will be rolled out to Android and Desktop soon.
Bookmark folders have long been part of Twitter Blue. This new functionality could make subscriptions more enticing.

No Ad Twitter
Elon may be onto something. Yes, some people were willing to pay for a checkmark, more weren’t. But what could entice a whole bunch of people to subscribe to the service?
No ads! A subscription service that promised a feed without ads could sell.
If Elon’s Tweets are to be trusted, it looks like Twitter may be considering it.

More eyes on your LinkedIn newsletter
LinkedIn has been getting behind newsletters in a big way. The newsletter function allows users to send regular newsletters to those who subscribe, similar to regular email newsletters.
They can be a great way to reach people who don’t log into the network frequently.
Now LinkedIn is going to help more people discover your newsletter. When you visit a profile on LinkedIn you’ll be able to see which newsletters they subscribe to.
This could give your newsletter a boost but it could also encourage unsubscribes from people who don’t want to promote you on their profile.
