How to use Copy.ai to write better marketing content – Copy AI review

Can artificial intelligence help you create better social media and digital marketing content?

I thought I’d find out how to use copy.ai, a free, popular copywriting tool powered by AI (artificial intelligence).

Could it help me with my regular digital marketing tasks? I tried it out and here is my copy.ai review.

You know what it’s like. You have a blog post to write, a sales page to construct, a bunch of social media captions or tweets to compose.

What seemed like an easy task when you added it to your to-do list becomes procrastination central when you sit down to do it.

Instead of writing, you’ll suddenly notice that it’s been at least 10 minutes since you finished that cup of tea. Or you’ll find yourself doing that horrible task you’ve been putting off. Or if you are working from home, you’ll find the housework calling you.

Your brain wants to do anything but write.

And that’s the real benefit of Copy.ai

How can artificial intelligence help you write?

Copy.ai is an AI writing tool that doesn’t write everything for you (although it can, badly). Instead, it inspires you to get started.

So put down the kettle, forget about the housework, log in to copy.ai.

How do you get started with Copy.ai?

Copy.ai is a web-based tool. That means no downloading, just go to the website and sign up.

There’s a free version which is what I used for this test. Once you log in there are a bundle of tools you can use to write your text. You add a prompt, tell it the tone of voice you want to use and it will generate suggestions.

The suggestions aren’t perfect but it will spark your imagination and get you started on that project that you’re brain wants to ignore.

Here are my top 8 tools for using Copy.ai

1. Blog title

This may be designed to write blog titles but it will also generate blog post ideas for you. Some of the suggestions were a bit mad, but I also found some useful suggestions.

2. Keyword generator

Keyword research for SEO can get stale after a while. Your own imagination tends to stop working and you run out of new ideas to research. And if you’re blogging for SEO this is a problem.

Copy AI will suggest keywords that will spark new ideas for your research.

3. Welcome email

Welcome emails get sent to people who sign up to your email list (or service), they can be stand-alone emails or part of a sequence. They are one of the most engaging emails you can send. In fact 86% of recipients will open a welcome email.

But they are hard to write, welcome emails and sequences send people into immediate procrastination. That’s why I love this tool. Use it to get started.

4. Question generator

Social media magic happens when you engage with people. It’s the lifeblood of any social media strategy.

You can engage with other people on social by commenting, reacting to and sharing their content.

And…

You can provoke engagement on your own posts by asking questions.

Coming up with a list of questions to ask is the hard part. Copy.ai was able to come up with a bunch of questions in seconds, the more I clicked the more I got. Were they all good? Were they all phrased right?

No, but I got ideas faster than I usually do staring at a blank screen.

5. Sales pages

Even typing those words gives me the fear. For me, this is the hardest type of writing.

Not only does copy.ai get you started, there’s a bundle of sales copy tools that could actually help you construct your sales page.

6. Instagram caption

The Instagram Caption gets overlooked. And that’s a shame. You put time and effort into your image or video but the caption can let you down.

A good caption will help nail the message, add context to your imagery and keep your audience engaged.

But like everything else, it takes time to come up with a good caption.

A lot of the caption ideas I got using copy.ai were way too salesy, but there were some good ones in there. The nice thing with copy.ai is that you ask it to generate more captions similar to the ones you do like. Which is cool.

7. Hashtag generator

Hashtags on Instagram help you get found and get seen. But just like keywords, you’ll soon run out of new ideas.

By using this tool alongside your regular hashtag research tools you’ll get lots of new ideas and reach lots of new people.

8. Testimonial rewrite

Here’s a secret, testimonials are amazing but they’re hard to get because people don’t like to write. They love what you do but the act of writing it down just seems like hassle.

I mean they have a house to clean and tea to make too.

One way you can make it easier is to offer to write a draft for your client based on what they’ve told you and your experience working with them.

The problem is that when you write them, they all sound the same, like they were written by you.

Copy.ai’s testimonial rewrite will change that up, meaning the draft you send your client will be significantly different to the one you sent the last person.

Is Copy.ai worth it?

If you’re looking for a tool that will do all the hard work for you, or if you’re looking to replace a copywriter with a machine copy.ai isn’t the tool for you (yet).

If you’re looking for something that will banish procrastination and help you push beyond your usual writing style, copy.ai will save you time and help improve your writing.
