Instagram Chronological Feed Will Return

Instagram is bringing back the chronological feed. Not as the main algorithmic feed, but you’ll be able to choose to view Instagram that way, similar to the way you can switch off the algorithm on Twitter.

It may be interesting to see how this affects your experience. Do you see more from the people you need to engage with, or do you see less that interests you, or both?

We want people to have meaningful control over their experience. We’ve been experimenting with Favorites, a way for you to decide whose posts you want to see higher up, and we’re working on another option to see posts from people you follow in chronological order.

Professional Creator profiles on Facebook

Facebook has always drawn a line between its business offering and its personal offering. Pages for business, profiles for people.

Yes, you can ‘follow’ people as well as friend them, but Facebook always nudged users towards pages for their professional lives.

But that’s changing. This week they announced ‘Professional profiles’ for creators.

This is a way to use your friend page to promote and monetise your content.

When you enable a professional profile you’ll get stats and monetisation options. I’m sure just like on LinkedIn we’ll see more features appear soon.

Customise link text on Instagram link sticker

The link sticker on Instagram is still newish and it’s already getting an upgrade.

Now when you add a link you’re prompted to add not just the link but link text. Use this to describe to people where you are sending them.

It should make links more clickable and removes the need to add text to your story separately.

Everyone can listen to Spaces recordings

It’s frustrating when you know a Twitter space has been recorded, yet you can’t listen to it on your laptop.

Or it was. As of this week, you can now listen back to recorded spaces on desktop as well as mobile.

This means more listens for broadcasters and more access for listeners. Next up, join a space from desktop? We’ll have to wait and see for that one.

TikTok seller app

The problem with managing your social media is distraction. How often have you gone to do a business task on a social network and instantly got sucked into a rabbit hole?

The problem is worst on TikTok.

Could this be why TikTok is launching a stand-alone seller app?

It’s being launched in Indonesia first. Users will be able to manage products, orders, returns and refunds from the app.

Pinterest acquires a video creation tool

As a business, you don’t always have to build something from scratch. If you are a large enough business you can even buy a company that does what you want.

That’s what Pinterest has done this week. They’ve acquired video creation and editing tool Vochi that looks very TikTok. They clearly want to jump onto the short video trend

They say the acquisition will:

“Help creators bring more quality video content to Pinterest”

Is Instagram about to change its navigation?

Instagram seem to be experimenting with a swipe up to the next story navigation.

This will match the navigation of Reels but could it be confusing for users. Tap left and right to view, swipe to the next story?

It could take some getting used to.
