This week’s pick of links includes social media planning, goal setting and storytelling amongst other things. I’ve also included that real life conference call video that will make you smile.
What listening to a story does to our brains
I’m sure you have heard people talking about storytelling as part of a marketing strategy. Essentially storytelling is at the centre of the success of social media. Every day I see my friends on Facebook tell the stories of their lives, in images and in status updates. The same goes for Twitter, I follow the lives of people I’d never discover or know outside social media. It is their stories that make me come back for more and keep me logging in every day. But why do we like stories? Why do messages told via stories stay with us.
This interesting post on the Buffer blog reveals what goes on in our brains when we hear stories.
8 Incredible Museums Sharing on Pinterest
It’s not often that I log in to Pinterest for a browse but I might do more often since I started following this lot. Museums seem like the perfect fit for Pinterest, so many great exhibits and following on from the last post there is a story behind every piece. Here are 8 that Mashable think you should be following and I think I agree.
The geek in me is particularly excited about following the space and aerospace museums.

Social media can offer us so much more and we often neglect that when we are thinking about what we want from our efforts.
This excellent post from Ragan outlines 12 social media goals that it’s worth paying attention to.
How to Create a Robust Editorial Calendar for Free Using Google Calendar
I can’t express how important it is to have an editorial calendar of some sort for your social media marketing. Putting one in place can save you lots of time, help you measure your results and can really help supercharge your brain.
Different templates work for different people but what I love about this recommendation from Hubspot is that it utilises a tool that a lot of us use every day, Google Calendar. February is on it’s way so this post is timely. You just have time to work on a fresh content strategy.
How to Find and Use Top Quality Images for Your Blog Articles
It often surprises people that you can’t just use images you find on a Google image search to accompany your blog posts. Images you source in this way are very often copyrighted and you could end up being sued for using them.
There are plenty of ways to get great images for your blog posts that are legal and won’t end in the courts. This post from Social Media Today outlines some of the best ways to source images.
