There are many reasons why people set up Facebook profile (friend) pages instead of business pages but if you are running a business and marketing it via your Facebook profile you are breaking Facebook’s terms and conditions. The good news is you don’t have to start from scratch you can migrate a Facebook profile page to a business or ‘like’ page.
What happens when you migrate your Facebook profile page?
When you migrate your Facebook profile page your friends become likes of the page. Your profile image will move over to the new page but none of the other content will move with you. If you have lots of photos and videos uploaded it’s worth downloading that content before you make the switch. Watch the video to find out how to do this.
You can’t change the name of your profile. If your profile is called ‘Amanda Webb’ then your page will need to be called ‘Amanda Webb’ or something similar. You can apply to Facebook for a page name change afterwards but they don’t always allow these changes.
What are the benefits of a Facbook business page?
Facebook do remove profiles that breech their terms and conditions. Sometimes they warn you in advance but it is common for them to do it without prior notice.
Scheduled posts – You can schedule posts to go out when they will reach more of your page likes using the scheduling option
Discover your audience – Once you have migrated your Facebook profile page you will be able to access lots of data about the people who like your page and the people that the posts from your page reach. This includes their gender, age group and location.
Statistics – Not all posts from pages or profiles reach all of your likes or friends. Facebook page insights allow you to see how many people your posts reach and how viral they are. This can help you put together a stronger strategy for your Facebook marketing.
Customisation – Once you have a Facebook page you can enhance it with extra tabs or pages that can showcase what your business does. I always recommend ShortStack app (affiliate link) for this as it has some lovely templates including competitions, contact, pinterest integration and almost every kind of page you could want.
Respect privacy – I migrate Facebook pages for businesses and it constantly surprises me that people will become friends with a business not knowing who has access to that page. Logging in to these accounts I am bombarded with personal information from the people who have become friends with the page including pictures of their children and very personal status updates. As a business page you no longer have access to this information.
